Stephen V. Maurer, OD — New Philadelphia, OH — The Eye Doctors

Stephen V. Maurer, OD

Dr. Steve Maurer earned his four-year Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences from The Ohio State University. Four years later, he graduated with a Doctor of Optometry degree from The Ohio State University College of Optometry.

Following graduation, Dr. Maurer was selected into the residency program at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Chillicothe, Ohio, before returning to his hometown of New Philadelphia to begin his private optometric practice in association with Dr. Kory Zehnder. Dr. Maurer is a 40+ year member of The American Optometric and the Ohio Optometric Associations, as well as being a past member of the New Philadelphia Jaycees and the New Philadelphia Lion’s Club, and has served on the Board of Trustees for the Tuscarawas County YMCA and the Atwood Yacht Club. Dr. Maurer and his wife Pam enjoy spending time with their children and grandchildren, boating at Atwood Lake, and having dinners and evenings with their friends.

Matthew J. Hurst, OD

Dr. Matt Hurst began practicing optometry in 1996. He started in Mechanical Engineering at Ohio State University but left this undergraduate study when he gained early admission to OSU’s Optometry School. After earning his Doctor of Optometry degree, he was happy to return to his hometown and join the established and respected practices of Dr. Kory Zehnder and Dr. Steve Maurer.

He is a member of the American Optometric Association and the Ohio Optometric Association. He enjoys teaching young students in area schools about their vision as a presenter for the Realeyes program of the Ohio Optometric Association. He has used his training to serve on Cross-Eyed Missions teams in Bolivia, Honduras, and Ukraine. Dr. Hurst married his wife, Kiera, in 1993. Together, they have three children: Logan, Kaden, and Sadie. They enjoy family time, water skiing, and snow skiing.
